Meet Lexi!
Lexi is the newest addition to our herd of sheep. She arrived at the farm on 1/24. A Connecticut family with a small farm reached out to Marla about this older ewe in the hopes that TRFR could find a place for her. She had been living with a single donkey who passed away over a month ago, leaving Lexi all alone. Marla agreed that she deserved to be living with friends.
Yours truly (Julia) and my wife Katie picked up and transported Lexi to her new home at TRFR. We were not prepared for how cooperative and gentle she was with us, and so our hour and half drive was thankfully undramatic. Lexi didn’t have a real barn at her last home, where she lived for about 10 years. When she arrived at the farm, she did her best to put on a show of being wild and chased the birds around and kicked up her hooves! She did not want to go into the barn out of fear. Luckily she did settle down once in her temporary stall in our little barn. She is currently separated from the other sheep so she can quarantine, but she just had her first vet checkup and should be cleared to join the others soon! In the meantime they can chat across the wall and get acquainted.
Lexi is timid, since she didn’t get much human or animal interaction at her previous home. With time and respect, as with all our animals, we hope that Lexi will feel safe enough to enjoy affection from humans and the other sheep. Lexi was named for the Lexi’s Legacy Foundation, which supports rescues and sanctuaries like ours! Their founder now sponsors Lexi.
