Welcome to our moms and lambs!
At the end of March, TRFR president and founder Marla, along with a group of dedicated volunteers, went to a livestock auction with the intention of saving a mother and baby sheep pair. Each time Easter rolls around, Marla tries to save a pair from the fate they face at the auction. Many people eat lambs on Easter, a thought that is unbearable for those who love and rescue these animals.
When the team arrived at the auction, they quickly realized that there were many souls in desperate need of help to save their lives. TRFR took action, and fellow sanctuaries Doe Eyes Animal Sanctuary, Little Red Barn Farm Sanctuary, and Sowa Goat Sanctuary stepped up to take in as many animals as they could from the situation.
TRFR is now a permanent home to two mom sheep and their babies: one set of twin boys and one single boy. We also took in one baby girl and one baby boy who were without their mothers. Read on to meet our new family members!
Cathy (mama) and baby Gregory! They are named for wonderful TRFR volunteers. Mama Cathy is very protective and is learning that she and her baby are now safe forever at TRFR. How cute are Gregory’s ears? All of their tags have since been removed. They are not a number!
Monique (mama) and baby Kelley! Monique and Kelley were named for long time volunteers at TRFR. Isn’t Monique beautiful? She is very affectionate and loves to be pet and talked to.
Kelley again (left) and Monique’s other baby Shirl (right). Both are male. We’re pretty sure all these lambs have the cutest faces we’ve ever seen.
This dainty baby girl is Everleigh. She was named after our barn manager Cherie’s granddaughter who was just born this year! Everleigh was without her mother at the auction. She is so small, just take a look at those precious hooves! She has bonded with Grandpa and feels safer when they are snuggled together.
Last but not least, meet Grandpa! He is so named because he just looks like an old man, with his fuzzy sideburns and ears. He is so sweet and lovable. We are lucky to have all these new animals in our family!
